Abstract
The Technical Secretariat (TS) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is vested with a general mandate to provide assistance and capacity-building support to States Parties to enable them to meet their obligations under the Chemical weapons Convention (CWC).

Whilst, sea dumped chemical weapons do not strictly fall within the scope of the CWC it is likely that, in the future, quantities of these weapons may well be recovered, requiring declaration to the OPCW.The presentation provides an explanation of the CWC and the roles to which it restricts the TS. Examples are given of coastal water recoveries of CW and the associated verification measures.
