The Eider - the drama of a river (1.54 MB)
Katinger Watt visitor centre
The NABU visitor centre at Katinger Watt is a colourful natural oasis, with a wildlife garden, permanent exhibition, information centre, shop and plenty of activities for all ages
A natural garden, with plants and ponds designed to attract insects, greets visitors to the centre. Here there are places to rest or picnic, games to play, and many things to do and discover.
A permanent exhibition (open from April to October) illustrates Katinger Watt’s transformation from estuary to dry land, tells the story of the River Eider and explores the flora and fauna to be found on land and in the water.
The main building houses an extensive reference library and the NABU shop. Here you can obtain maps of the reserve and borrow binoculars and scopes for a small fee so you can explore Katinger Watt close up.
The reserve’s permanent staff and volunteers are on hand to answer questions, offer tips and explain what makes Katinger Watt so special. They also run regular tours, talks and activities from the end of March to early November (see programme – Veranstaltungsprogramm in German). Some are available in English on request.
