Where the tides once ruled, species conservation and experiencing nature go hand in hand. NABU manages about 2300 hectares of wetland at Katinger Watt, on northern Germany’s Eiderstedt peninsula, on what used to be tidal saltmarsh and mudflats in the Eider estuary. The reserve, managed for ground nesting birds, also offers visitors plenty of opportunities to experience nature on their own, at the visitor centre, or as part of a guided tour. Avocets, eagles, orchids and solitary bees are just a few of the highlights waiting to be discovered.
